Midgets Removed From Outlaw Showdown Program

The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series has been removed from the Saturday, October 11th program.  The class was added as a make up date to the traditional Outlaw showdown weekend.  However, with the expected large car counts and fall temperatures, track officials did not feel they could adequately handle an additional class.

Scheduling for 2015 season with the Midget series is currently being looked at with events being more evenly distributed over the entire 2015 season.  Officials will look to schedule Midget races routinely each month (1-2 each month) verses heavy months of April and September which will alleviate large schedule gaps during the summer months.

Montpelier Motor Speedway Forced To Cancel May 3rd Racing Program Due to Equipment Failure.

A broken piece of track equipment late in the day has forced the cancellation of the May 3rd racing program at the Montpelier Motor Speedway. The track crew was busy preparing the track for Saturday's racing program when the track's back up grader blew a head gasket. The track's main grader is currently in for service after the renovation project. The track staff attempted to rent a grader to complete track preparations, but no rental/excavation companies could deliver rental equipment until Saturday leaving little time to prepare the track to a safe and raceable surface. The Montpelier Motor Speedway staff regretfully announces this cancellation is looking forward to hosting races on May 10th. The Montpelier Motor Speedway will look for additional race dates for the Midgets and other classes to compensate for the missed program.

Wet Grounds Postpone April 12 Montpelier Motor Speedway Opener
Wet grounds have forced the cancellation of the Season Opening, April 12 program at the Montpelier Motor Speedway for the 2nd week in a row.  The Montpelier Motor Speedway, undergoing a major renovation project for the 2014 season, was again hampered by weather that halted track crews from being able to complete the final stages of the project.  The last major step of the project, completing the infield track lighting, was halted due to the infield being too wet and soft from early week rain that left crews unable to get the crane and bucket truck into the infield for the completion of the work.
The Montpelier Motor Speedway season opener will now be April 19th with a program that will feature the Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series, UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars, and FWD Compacts.

2014 IMPROVEMENTS - READ MORE - UPDATED APRIL 4, 2014

Inclement Weather Forces Postponement of April 4 and April 5 Season Opener at the Montpelier Motor Speedway.

A week that contained snow and cold followed by rain has forced the Montpelier Motor Speedway officials to postpone the Montpelier Motor Speedway April 4 and April 5 Season Opener.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway is currently undergoing its biggest renovation including the addition of a new catch fence system, front stretch wall, track drainage system, track configuration, transponder scoring system along with a track lighting project.  Despite the harsh winter and spring and massive renovation project, the Montpelier Motor Speedway staff has been able to complete a majority of the renovations project by working from 6AM to nearly 10PM.  Despite the effort, the weather conditions slowed progress.

"We felt like the track renovations and upgrades needed to be completed by the end of the March 29th weekend so that we could focus on track prep and race operations the entire week for the Double Header opener.  We are close to have everything complete, but early season track prep is always tricky especially with the winter we've had and the two day show format.  We felt like if we were still focusing on finishing up the loose ends of the renovation the week of the race instead of race prep we couldn't provide the a quality experience for our fans and race teams.   The couple days we lost this week to weather was all we probably needed to have everything finished.  We felt it was important to make sure everything was done right verses thrown together especially when you are dealing with safety and electrical projects.  We are disappointed the weather wouldn't allow us to get the program in.  It's always a big weekend for us, our race teams, and fans," said track owner, Harold Hunter.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway will now focus its attention on April 12th for its 28th Annual Season Opener with a program of UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars, FWD Compacts, and Mod Lites. followed by the first appearance of the MMS Midget Series on April 19.  The Montpelier Motor Speedway will look to reschedule two Midget programs during the 2014 season so that series will be able  to compete for 10 dates for the series championship and rookie of the year honors.  Midget dates will be announced within the next couple of weeks.

Montpelier Motor Speedway Continues To Make Progress on Major 2014 Facility Improvement Project

The Montpelier Motor Speedway is continuing to make substantial progress on a major facility improvement project for the 2014 season.  The project will feature a new concrete wall that runs the entire length of the front stretch, improved lighting, new separate exit and push off entrance lanes, a reconfigured turn 4 along with wall-less corners with a run-off area.

Montpelier Motor Speedway Announces Facility Improvements For 2014 Race Season.

In an effort to provide a better race experience for drivers and fans, a major off-season project is currently underway at the Montpelier Motor Speedway in preparation for the 2014 season. Following the final 2013 event, the track staff has removed the steel guardrail that runs the length of the straightaway along with all fencing, guardrails, and light poles in turns and 1 and also turn 4.

The completion of the new project for the 2014 season will feature:
  •  A concrete wall that runs the entire length of the front stretch.
  • The project will leave each turn of the racing facility open with a “run off” area before a wall and fence separates the track from the pit area.  This will give drivers a "buffer" and allow for more room for error before wall contact.
  • With the removal of the wall in the corners, the turns of the track will be re-radiused with wider and flowing corners specifically in turns 3 and 4.
  • A new push off lane and track entrance will be constructed on turn 2 while a separate exit lane will be constructed off of turn 1 providing a safer entrance/exit lanes.
