As the Montpelier Motor Speedway enters its 113th year of racing including its 30th consecutive season opener, race fans will find an aggressive and diverse schedule featuring 28 races at the East Central Indiana 1/4 mile clay oval. Owners and Promoters, Harold and Lori Hunter, enter their 8th year of promotion and 6th year of ownership of the facility built in 1903.
The Montpelier Motor Speedway will feature its weekly regular racing classes including the highly popular and competitive UMP Modifeds, Super Streets, and Thunder Cars along with the budget FWD Compact class all competing weekly. The Mod Lites will also compete at the Montpelier Motor Speedway for a host of programs in 2016. Special events will still remain a point emphasis for the classes that put on tremendous racing every Saturday night at the Montpelier Motor Speedway with no less than 6 special paying events for the weekly classes.
The 6th Annual Early Season Shootout will be held April 9. The speedway will host the always popular Family Nights on 2 occasions in 2016 (May 31st and August 27th) featuring discounted admission, food, and an pit side autograph session. The June 25th racing program will see the return of an action packed Fireworks show presented by Circle City Pyrotechnics. The program will feature with a full slate of racing including the Midgets, UMP Modifeds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars, and the Mod Lite Nationals along with a professional Firework Celebration optimized for viewing from the Montpelier grandstands. The Montpelier Motor Speedway will celebrate the life and racing career of UMP Modified veteran Greg Pitts on July 9th with the Greg Pitts Memorial. The speedway’s biggest UMP Modified race to date will return with the second running of the IGNITE High Performance Ethanol and Lubricants 40 and 20 on September 17th. The 2015 event will served as the biggest UMP Modified single day event in the history of the Montpelier Motor Speedway and the 2016 event is looking to become ever more spectacular.
The season will conclude with a host of popular special programs with 6th Annual Late Season Shootout on September 24th. Plexiglas, sprint car wings, topless modifieds, and innovation will hit the track in quickly growing event with the 5th Annual Outlaw Showdown on Saturday, October 8. The season will conclude with the fan favorite with 10th Annual Monster Mash on October 22nd featuring trick or treating in the pit area before the races and the infamous one chance per year to win the “Monster Mash Skull Trophy”.
A diverse open wheel schedule will compete at the Montpelier Motor Speedway including the Inaugural appearance of the USAC National Sprint Cars (April 23rd) and the USAC National Midgets (May 31st) during Indiana Midget Week. Also, returning for the 2016 season will be MSCS Non Winged Sprint Cars (July 23rd), NRA Sprint Invaders Winged Sprint Cars (May 14th and July 30th), and BOSS Non Winged Sprint Car series (September 10th).
The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series will enter its fifth season with a scheduled 11 dates towards the MMS track championship. The highly competitive full size/unlimited engine Midget class has found a total of 17 different drivers in victory lane since its inception. The King of TQ Midgets will be the be the host series for 3 TQ Midgets events during the 2016 season. The series utilizes Midgets built three-quarter the size of their MMS Midget Series brethren.
