Montpelier Motor Speedway Set To Host Double Dose of Winged Sprint Car Racing With The NRA Sprint Invaders on Saturday, June 6th and August 1st.

When the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders rolls into the sleepy small town of Montpelier, Indiana the events will feature a true epic battle drawing Ohio’s and Michigan’s finest winged sprint car drivers to the Indiana 1/4 mile bullring.  Before the Border Wars event hit the track during the 2014 season, it had been a 10 year absence of winged sprint car racing at the 112 year old east central Indiana racing facility.  Fans of MMS and the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders will have a much shorter wait for the return of winged sprint cars with second iteration of the Border Wars event, co hosted with the Limaland Speedway, on Saturday, June 6th.  The NRA Invaders will then return for a second appearance at the Montpelier Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 1st in an event that will serve as one of the last points event for the coveted NRA points championship.  The Montpelier Motor Speedway is also currently working on the finishing details that will bring together an outstanding group of sprint car drivers from Ohio and Michigan for the winged 2015 events.

The 2014 iteration of the Border Wars saw an epic battle with Ohio outlaw, Greg Wilson (Benton Ridge, Ohio) picking up the feature win from the 12th starting position besting Delphos, Ohio’s Shawn Dancer and California heavy hitter, the Hurricane, Randy Hannagan (from 7th).  The race saw 4 different leaders during the green to checkers 25 lap feature event.  For the former All Star Circuit Champion, Wilson, it was a bit of homecoming as Montpelier was the site of his first career sprint car win nearly 20 years earlier.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features including a new catch fence and front stretch wall. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series.
